What Doesn’t Work for Me (anymore)

I like this new little twist Shannon threw in this week. What Doesn’t Work for Me Wednesday, now that is clever!

Trouble is, I just have too many random thoughts about the multitude of failures over my lifetime. Of course, I have learned important lessons from all of them. I can’t pick just one! So, I will just add my random assortment of what does NOT work for me. If these things do work for you, please don’t be offended.

Here goes, in no particular order:

Leasing a New Car. Never again. Bad idea.

Shopping at Super Target. Had to give up this addiction. My bank account is much better off!

Starbucks. See above. Can you say, four dollar latte?

Drinking or Buying Soda. My home is soda-free. Always has been, always will be.

Video Games. We do not own a Wii, PS, or Xbox. I believe my marriage is better off, and my kids are more active.

Going to the Mall
. I worked in a huge mall for 3 years. I have had my share, and I don’t miss it one bit!

Smoking. Tried it… for a while. When I was young and stupid.

Trying to raise a family in Orange County, CA on one income. This did not last long. Texas, we love you!

Grocery Shopping the “old way”. Like without coupons, without a list, and buying things impulsively.

Being a Vegetarian in Texas. This lasted 18 months, after 17 years in Hawaii and California without meat.

Highlighting my own hair. Huge mistake. This is one area where I am willing to splurge, otherwise my hair would be orange.

Using Credit Cards for non-emergencies. I learned this the hard way. We are slowly crawling out of debt.

Living without God. I tried to do things my way for years, but I only ended up miserable. A spirit-filled life based on sound Biblical principles is truly joyful!

All good “what not to do” tips! Especially the vegetarian thing in Texas – I’m surprised that’s not against the law 🙂

Great list!! I just started giving up soda – this week in fact – in an attempt to be a little healthier…I hope I can keep at it…

    Thanks for the comments!

I think it is also against the law in Texas not to own a grill… which we don’t.

    Please don’t tell anyone!

Just goes to show that when kids are raised WITHOUT soda, they won’t want it when they grow up! Stay strong and keep it out of the house…

    Love, Mom
