This article gave me a good chuckle.
$80 on one evening out with your spouse?
I suppose it’s possible, but not in my budget. Our (infrequent) date nights usually involve a BOGO entree coupon at a local restaurant, water with lemon for drinks, and we skip the movies. I would rather enjoy my spouse face to face, not side by side staring at a screen for 2 hours.
Yahoo, you left off one major money-saver from your list:
Shop at CVS!
Guess I am well on my way to becoming a millionaire! Who knew?
What do you usually spend on a date night? How do you save on entertainment? I would love to hear about your frugal (or unfrugal) ways!

Actually hubby and I just went to the orchestra on Saturday. We got the tickets free thanks to Carrie’s post at MoneySavingMethods. But, we splurged on a nice dinner. But, looking back, the dinner was not as good as we paid for it.
I am becoming very cheap (not frugal) nowadays when it comes to eating out. If I can make it at home, cheaper, and it tastes better why do I bother going out? Oh well, next time we’ll choose a place that is good and consistent every time!
I’m interested to see what other do on frugal date nights – if you don’t have family close, it doesn’t become too frugal when you have to pay for a sitter!

Our cheapest and most memorable date was to the local book store. We grabbed a coffee, and looked at books for hours! Our favorite was a book of song lyrics that people commonly misunderstood….it was great fun and lead to lots of interesting conversation. Didn’t buy a thing, other than the coffee. That date was in 1999 and it’s still the one I remember best!

I do think it’s ok to splurge once in a while for special occasions. But cheap dates can be just as fun!

We like at home dates together 🙂
We like to make meals together – it is cheaper than eating out and tastes way better!
We subscribe to Netflix (we don’t watch tv, just movies) and enjoy watching them together. It’s $17/month, but well worth it in our minds 🙂
We LOVE games and own tons! Garage sales and thrift stores (especially right after Christmas!) have really unique games for cheap.
We make up iced drinks – ice coffee, bubble tea, chai tea… all those drinks you see at places for $5 + we recreate at home for cheap. SOOO yummy!
Ummm… you’ve totally inspired me 🙂 I think I’ll write a blog post soon about cheap dates!
