I was hit by a Tank today…

My dog, Tank, that is. I was outside for some fresh air this morning on the sidewalk in front of my house.

Tank, being the overgrown puppy that he is, loves to chase me back and forth as I run up and down the street. That is the great thing about Boxers. They stay near their masters, even off the leash.

My family was inside, and just as I was running back towards the house, I heard his paws coming fast and furious behind me. I knew exactly what was about to happen. Seventy pounds of muscle plowed through my legs in one swift motion.

I hit the concrete driveway with a thud, legs flailing, sunglasses flying. For several seconds, I laid there in complete shock staring at the sky. All I could think, was, “please Lord, let no one see me like this”.

I managed to peel myself off the driveway and stumble inside. Then the pain hit me. I fell to the floor in hubby’s office, and all I could say through gasps was “Tank… hit me… fell.” My hands and elbows felt like they were on fire.

My girls ran in, concerned, and Sara immediately got me an ice pack. Leah, my 2 year old, announced she was going to get her “blankie” for Mommy.

I could no longer hold back the tears. My head and lower back took the brunt of the fall, and my neck was not much better.

I laid there and sobbed like a baby. I can’t remember the last time I cried like that. I recalled a distant memory of a bicycle crash when I was 12, but it did not hurt like this!

Hours later, I am still aching. As a kid, bumps and scrapes were an everyday occurrence. Get up, dust yourself off and go!

I am painfully reminded that my 30th Birthday is rapidly approaching.

Oh, that’s terrible! Hope you will be feeling better tomorrow – though you may be sore for a while. And of course, Tank does not even realize…

  2. Alyssa says

Thank, Lisa. I sorta feel like I was in a car accident. Poor Tank just grinned and licked me on the face. Oh well, I guess I forgive him!

  3. Betsy says

Oh no…I am so sorry. Things like this seem to happen to me too and I always have that thought “Please, let nobody see me.” What sweet girls you have taking care of you. (Love the blanket part.) Feel better soon.

When our two GSP’s were puppies, we lived in Newport, RI and would take them to Second Beach (where everyone took their dogs to run).
They had about a mile of open beach to run…and they needed it!

One day, my dear Bailey (she passed away last summer) hit me from behind at full speed and took me out at the knees. My husband and I still laugh about it.

    Heal up soon!

Just had to giggle reading this. But no disrespect meant.

I remember when I turned 30. All my friends were older and had no sympathy for the discomfort I was feeling about hitting the 30. It was a little frustrating. But a day or two past my birthday I had realized I had survived.

Hope you are on the mend.

I used to ride horses a lot. And as I picked it back up in my late 20’s I realized I had a lot more places that ached and hurt then when I rode in my teens. LOL.

So glad your kiddies were there to kiss the boo boos. 🙂

Oh, Alyssa! I am so sorry. Are you feeling better? Should you go and get checked out by a Dr?

Your girls are so sweet to comfort you and take care of you. This is a direct reflection of their mother. 🙂

Ouch! That’s why my husband gets rowdy with our boxer and I don’t. She might be smaller than most but she can run fast and stops hard, especially when she plows into a person 🙂

Re: that bicycle crash at age 12

That one involved a slight concussion, a major case of road rash and yes, a trip to the hospital.

Big owie, for sure. No fun. Glad you’re OK. Take care. Love, Mom

  9. Living For Today! says

Oh no! I am sorry to hear this! 🙁

I know what you mean about hoping that no one saw you. That is the very first thing that goes through my mind when I trip or something like that. Why is that?

  10. Jennifer says

    Ouch.

Good thing you just stocked up on free bandages at CVS, huh? 😉

Hope you are feeling better soon!

  11. Alyssa says

Thank you for all your kind words.

I am still in a lot of pain. The good news is, I got to use my free tylenol, free band-aids, and free neosporin, all from CVS!
