Input Requested: Father’s Day?

I love having instant access to my “friends” in the blogosphere. The response to my last request for help with chicken was overwhelmingly educational and helpful, so I figured I would present my next dilemma to my favorite readers: YOU!!

With Father’s Day right around the corner, as usual, I am running dry on ideas for my wonderful hubby. Last Father’s Day was a flop, since the girls and I were in California and hubby stayed behind for work. I need to do something amazing this year for my man.

Father’s Day is a bittersweet event in my life. Let me explain my little sob story, no pity, please. My Dad is not a part of my life, and has not been for many years. My family basically ignored Father’s Day every year. When I was a young single-mom, Father’s Day was particularly irrelevant since my daughter’s father played no significant role in her life, and still doesn’t (my disdain for dead-beat Dads is a whole other post).

Along comes Troy. Already a Dad himself, and instantly bonding with Sara, I was simply smitten. Four years later, I have never really affirmed him the way he deserves on Father’s Day.

Of course, I need frugal ideas and suggestions, please. What is Father’s Day like in your home?

Please cast your vote in my credit card poll on the right if you have not already done so. It gives me excellent blogging material! Thank you!

This is only my husband’s second Father’s Day but I plan to continue to little celebration I began last year. I baked from scratch his favorite summer pie and made fried chicken, cole slaw, and so on to be enjoyed as a picnic lunch at a park. This year, my daughter is also going to pitch in with a homemade card and handprint teeshirt for both Daddy and Grandpa. The teeshirt is a bit cheesy I know, but they will both appreciate her efforts. 😀

I would say, find out his love language (the book 5 love languages if you haven’t read is awesome) and give him a gift he’ll appreciate that comes from your heart! My hubby is an acts of service man so cleaning the house top to bottom will be what he would love (not that he’s getting that), but I’ll try my best to make it what he wants! We’ll also do homemade cards with something heartfelt from our kiddies inside. And, I’ll let him get Chinese on Sunday since it’s his fave and we never get it! Those are just a few of my ideas but I’m eager to hear more!!

Since my husband will be out of town. the older 2 made a video for him. It was silly(the best kind) They had so much fun, they ended up doing 2 more for his dad and my dad.

I love The Five languages of Love Andrea mentioned above it is a great book my hubbys language is Words of Afrimation. I like to make every holiday a big deal in our house even the little ones, I always bake a cake and of coarse letting him workout bjj for a few hours on a sunday makes him so so happy. I think I might surprise him and take him fishing this year.

I have not actually done this, but a good friend of mine did, and the result was a husband in happy tears and unbelievably affirmed. Write him a letter. Tell him everything you love and appreciate about him, how proud you are of him, etc. You could have the kids write one, too.

I think I need to take my own advice!

Hey there…coming by for a bit to catch up with you and saw this post.

It’s so important to honor those awesome husbands who are also great fathers — I’ve got one at my house.

I like the letter idea; you could take this a step further and make a little book for him, “You’re the Best Dad in the World Because…” and then have a series of pages after that where the kids finish the sentences and draw pictures (the funnier the answers and pictures, the better).

Then you take the last page and tell him exactly what’s in your heart – don’t hold back.

    My 2 cents!

Smiles — saw your pool pic with your girls a day or so ago. What beautiful, shining faces!

I like the letter idea. You and the kids could also make a scrapbook page and frame it or laminate it. What about breakfast in bed? Dads like that too, right?

Stop by my blog – I have an award for you! 🙂

His favorite meal, his favorite movie, and maybe the promise of his favorite weekend in the near future – and the letter, definitely. I’m guessing you could also say from the heart that even though your own Father failed, somehow God sent you the answer to your prayers, a wonderful Father for your children, which is the best gift in the world.

Hi Alyssa… Your blog is wonderful and I’m so glad I stumbled upon it. I’m for sure marking you to my favorites list and plan to return many times!

Your friends have shared some very nice Father’s Day ideas! We enjoy doing home-made cards, not on the computer. Then make some cute and clever “coupons” … 1 FREE Mowing of the Lawn… 1 Long Back Rub… 2 Weeks of Taking the Trash Out… You get the idea! LOL … also, home-made bookmarks are so easy and can be dressed up in many ways… Bible passages… kid’s fingerprints with names and dates… hearts with a small photo glued in the center… etc.! Easy, Fast, and Gentle on the budget…

Have a wonderful weekend and please stop by my blog for a visit anytime! I’d be so happy to have company…
