Okay, so, I am new to this couponing/loss leader shopping thing, but I also have limited resources. I live in a very small town where the only local grocery store is Homeland. There is a Wal-Mart and Homeland 20 miles north and a Wal-Mart, Tom Thumb, and Sack-N-Save 20 miles south of me. I have a Tom Thumb card, but it can be difficult sometimes to get down there with my three girls. Fortunately for me, Homeland DOUBLES coupons. I get waaaayyyy too excited watching my coupons double as they are rung up. Another limitation is, our major newspaper, The Daily Oklahoman has stopped delivering their paper in our town… it is not even at gas stations! The issue is, that paper has the majority of the coupons! The Daily Ardmoriete rarely has coupons, and when they do, they are not very good. So… if I want the good Sunday coupons, I will have to pay extra to have the dumpy Sunday Oklahoman delivered TWO days late! I haven’t made a decision on that, but I’m probably going to bite the bullet and have it mailed. I just HATE paying for that (those cheapies say delivery in our town is not cost efficient), but I hate losing the coupons more. Anyway, the point of this blog is to say how EXCITED I was last night when I got my receipt back. I saved 49 percent! I got my items for HALF of original total cost! I had $8.35 in coupons, $4.35 of which doubled (my $4.00 coupon for a razor did not double). Plus, I saved $19.08 by purchasing only sale items (most of which were “loss leaders”). I joked with my husband that the only thing I paid full price for was the local newspaper… and it was only $0.50.
