Walgreen's $5 Challenge (1)

Welcome, my fellow Walgreens fans! It’s Sunday, time for our weekly Walgreens $5 Challenge.  The place to come for simple scenarios with step-by-step instructions.

This is a great week to start the $5 Challenge at Walgreens! Encourage a friend to check out the deals. Be sure to have a Walgreens ad handy when planning your scenarios since they always contain coupons.

Walgreens is a bit different than CVS. If you are new to Walgreens, and wanting to learn the basics, check out this post.

If you are a first time visitor, here’s the lowdown:

Join me each week as I host The Walgreens $5 Challenge!

Seasoned WAGS shoppers: share your best scenario(s) for the upcoming week at Walgreens.

Your budget: $5.00 out-of-pocket cash.

Your mission: to grow that $5.00 into more Register Rewards (RR) to use in upcoming weeks.

*********************************

*RULES* Bloggers: Please make sure at least one scenario is $5 OOP or less

1. Come up with your best scenario/scenarios for the upcoming week at Walgreens using the current weekly ad, monthly deals, and coupons available. Your budget for Out of Pocket (OOP) expenses on the first transaction is only $5.00 (either cash OOP or RRs on hand).

2. Using up to (3) scenarios (we don’t want to overwhelm the newbies with too many transactions), offer up your best scenarios to “grow” that $5.00 into more RRs to use in following weeks.

3. If you want to divide your $5.00 allowance over the 3 scenarios to make them work, that’s fine!

4. Be sure to list coupons by inserts and/or with links to printables to make it easier for everyone to follow along.

I’m a newbie and wondered if these were separate visits or if you had the associate ring up 1st then 2nd & last 3rd separately. I hope that makes sense. I am very excited to start learning the ropes and saving lots of money!

Hi! Just wanted to say that I think you might need to add fillers to transaction #1 and #2. There are more coupons than items (in ad coupon and register rewards count as coupons), and the register will beep not allowing you to use them. Sometimes cashiers can manually adjust it, but most of the time they won’t. Hope that helps!!!

i ran to walgreens on my lunchbreak and though you provide links to $1 off coupons for 2 of the items i bought(i can’t access them here at work) and i didn’t really start saving coupons til after the 8/2 SS which seemed to have been a good one for everyone), i still managed to spend under $5 and was rather excited since i came home with a big ol’ bag full:)
HUGGIES diapers reg $11.99 wags Q $3 MQ $3 = $5.99 (even beats double coupon price at other places)
    CAREFREE liners $1.99 – $2RR = FREE
    ZONE RAZOR $3.99 -$4RR = FREE
    REMBRANT toothpaste $5.00 -$5RR = FREE
used $14 in RR from last week and receieved$11 in RR today so even with the diapers, i only spent $4 out of pocket….made my day…i might have to go buy more diapers at this price even though there are more diapers than clothes in my daughters closet:)

    Tiffany-
Great question! It really depends on your cashier. Most of them do not mind doing separate transactions in one visit. Just ask politely, and try to shop during a slow time. 🙂

    Ashley-
Thanks so much for pointing that out! You are absolutely right, I will update that transaction to include a small “filler”.

    Vicki-
GREAT job! That is awesome savings, especially for diapers, which you can never have enough of!
