I have been a Jason White fan for a L-O-N-G time, and it was a real dream-come-true to meet him IRL today!
As College Football fans know, Saturday is the Red River Showdown: OU vs Texas. It is a big deal for those of us who live on the stretch of I-35 that lies between Norman, OK, and Dallas, Texas {mainly ’cause we can’t get on the Interstate and go anywhere from Thursday to Sunday thanks to all the traffic!}, and our little town is the last stop before you hit the border (sorry, WinStar).
Homeland, my only favorite local grocery store hosted 3 of the 5 OU Heisman Trophy winners today, for a little meet-and-greet.
Jason White, me, Billy Sims
All three were so nice, friendly, and personable. Billy Sims has the sweetest smile and a booming, friendly voice. Steve Owens had a handshake and a kind word for everyone. Jason White was just plain sweet. He was my favorite, of course!
The above picture was taken after a bit of haggling by… Billy Sims! I was the one taking all of the pictures for our family, and he got after me to get in front of the camera. I told him I didn’t really do pictures, and he asked if I was an OU fan. I hesitated, because Jason was standing right there (with that adorable grin), but I was honest anyway, and replied, “Weellll… I’m a Jason White fan…” Oh, Billy thought that was the funniest thing ever, and said I had to take a picture and Jason could be in it too. As you can see, I was a very happy camper. {And, yes, my husband was there… he took the picture! And, he is fine with my little “crush” on Jason White.}
And, I am not a Jason White fan just because he is cute… I really have been a fan since he began playing. He has amazing talent, and even during the rough times, I still encouraged him (through the tv screen, of course) and supported him. I always liked how he spoke about his team and about himself.
