Warm a Heart by Donating a Coat

When I first heard about The Big Warm Up Event through Facebook, I knew it was a great opportunity to show my kids what giving is all about. Sure, they see me bag up clothing for the Goodwill, but typically they do not see it go any farther than that.

So yesterday, I loaded up the mini-van, and took them to the mall. It felt a little funny carrying several heavy coats inside on a 75 degree Texas fall day, but the girls didn’t seem to mind.

The Big Warm Up is a nationwide initiative to gets coats onto people who need them most- the homeless. It all started in Boston through Lands’ End, which can also be found inside your local Sears.

Check out how easy it was to drop off those coats, with 3 kids in tow:

See if there is a drop off station near you. By the way, if you do make a donation, you will receive a coupon for 20% off the purchase of a new Lands’ End coat at Sears.

We left the mall with empty arms, but full hearts!

I love this one and thank you for the video. I didn’t realize until I watched it that they could be used coats. So instead of going to buy one to donate I’ve found 4-5 in my house that I can donate. I love your challenge to give and hope you will continue to encourage people even after the 30 days is up! Thanks!

I’ve seen kids in Las Vegas walking around with no coats and it’s 40 degrees outside.
Many homeless, unemployed and underemployed families cannot afford thrift shop prices.
This why we ask local people to donate their coats to Blessfest. It will be on Thanksgiving at our church.
