I love gardens.
I love gardening.
I do not have a green thumb.
I kill plants just by looking at them.
I need HALP, and my plants need prayer.

Wanna take a guess what I spent my Monday doing?
Sad to say, the above statements are true. Somehow, I tend to kill my plants, and I am not sure how {oh, wait. plants need water? wha???}.
My GiGi was an amazing gardener, and I wish she were here to do the work for me help me out a bit. Unfortunately, she did not pass her green thumb onto her beloved only granddaughter. Ahem.
And, so begins my struggle.
I am determined, though, to have a garden. And I am actually very ambitious with what I have purchased for the garden attempt this year. I am also soaking up lots of great gardening knowledge to assist me in this endeavor.
Not pictured are the seedlings I have started, and flowers we intend to purchase. Oh, and the actual garden. As for the funny-looking buckets, my girls painted those last year {yes, there have been previous attempts at gardening…}.
Hmmm… we will see. You might be seeing this in a fail post later this month summer. Ha!

That looks a lot like my own gardening attempts. I had wild aspirations of having a beautiful herb garden. So I’m learning to grow “native, indigenous plants”, aka weeds. They grow very well. Try some gaura, purple coneflowers, and lantana. You really can’t kill those. 🙂 Chives actually do quite well, as does rosemary. Parsley will attract these butterflies: http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com/2010/03/name-that-beastie-your-turn.html

Oh my heavens – I could have written this post, too. The last time I was determined to have beautiful flowers was when I was pregnant with my youngest who was due in the spring. So the previous fall, I planted TONS of tulip bulbs so all would be beautiful when baby arrived. We soon figured out that the dog was digging them up – and then learned that ingested tulip bulbs make dogs hallucinate!!! Needless to say, I gave up!

You and me both! I just spent the last weekend planting my ambitious garden. I’ve got my fingers crossed for something green!

If it makes you feel any better, you could have had difficulty with plants in pots because it is typically more difficult than when you plant things directly into the ground. It was MUCH easier to have my vegetable garden in the ground (well, in raised beds) than the year I tried container gardening. Man — that was just a lot more time consuming.

I never had a green thumb before either… and sometimes I wonder even NOW if I might have one?! Dunno… At any rate, keep trying! Gardening is a learning experience and once you find the plants you love and can grow, you will be off!
I love gardening. 🙂
