Favorite Homeschool Resource: OrganWise Guys + {Giveaway}

As a homeschooling mom, I am always looking for new and fun ways to teach my girls.

While I make a lot of my own curriculum, I love researching and seeing what others use and do with their kiddos.

We are beginning a study on the human body, and the OrganWise Guys are making it really easy to understand how our bodies function. Our current focus is the heart, and I LOVE all of the free resources that are included on the OrganWise site.

One of the items we were graciously sent was Little Organ Annie.

Little Organ Annie comes stuffed with, well, organs. Yes, I know it might sound a little strange, but she is a really neat teaching tool.

She comes complete with all of the organs. The organs have Velcro on them, so you can “stick” them in their proper spot. It makes for an entertaining way to teach about the human body, and what duty each organ performs.

Here is a little more about Annie from the website:

The OrganWise Guys is a cast of clever characters: Hardy Heart; Calci M. Bone; Sir Rebrum, the brain; Madame Muscle; The Kidney Brothers; Peri Stolic, the intestines; Pepto, the Stomach; Windy, the lungs; Peter Pancreas; and Luigi Liver, who inspire children to take charge of their health because The OrganWise Guys “love who they live in” and are counting on them to make healthy choices!

These unique and lovable teaching tools reside inside The OrganWise Gal Doll and reinforce “why” healthy behaviors are so important! Children will see that no matter how we look on the outside, we are all the same on the inside.

We also received the book, “How to be Smart from the Inside Out!” This book introduces all of the “OrganWise Guys,” and gives an easy-to-understand definition and description of each organ.

This book teaches kids the four club rules of low-fat, high-fiber, lots of water and exercise! Children will also gain an understanding of how lifestyle choices affect heart and colon health.

The book is full of colorful, fun pictures and is written with an encouraging tone. It shows kids the difference between and healthy body and an unhealthy body… and tells them how to maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle.

The goal of the OrganWise company is this:

… to empower children (and their families) as young as three years old up through their elementary school years on how to be “healthy and smart from the inside out.”

I love how their focus is on kids AND families. Too many times, we parents can put our focus on our kids’ eating habits and put our health on the back burner.

    Hi Amy,
    I like Windy the Lungs. I just found your blog today and have subscribed. I also “liked” Organ wise on Facebook. Thanks for finding their site as we are studying the body right now!
