Two years in the making, our sweet Abby Grace made her decision for Christ public a few weeks ago. There is no greater joy than seeing your child confess her faith in Jesus.
It has been a time of wonderful celebration, and quiet contemplation. After all, while we all make our own choices in life, as her parents, we are responsible for pointing her in the right direction.
As a pastor, Shane was honored to baptize his oldest little girl. It was an amazing experience for our entire family. Reese was right beside Abby through it all, helping her get her baptismal robe on and drying her off afterward.
And to make it even more special, a dear friend was baptized by his pastor father right after Abby.

The conversation began two years ago, when a 6-year-old Abby asked me – out of the blue – about hell. We had a little talk, and it wasn’t brought up again until a Sunday afternoon in June. Reese commented about a baptism that had taken place that morning, and we chatted about that for a bit when Abby mentioned that she had asked Jesus into her heart and could she get baptized. Needless to say, Shane and I were taken a bit aback by this sudden announcement, but we had a wonderful discussion that led to Abby talking to our pastor that evening before church.
Abby let us know that she has been thinking and praying about this decision ever since that talk with me when she was 6. Boy did that make me realize just how much what we say as parents sticks with our kids!
