My Christmas decor has been up for weeks now, and I meant to share it before now! We put our Christmas tree up the first free Saturday in November, because we have learned from experience that waiting until the Saturday after Thanksgiving is not a good thing. Our family isn’t always home, and the Saturdays from there tend to go downhill where time is concerned. So. Yes, we are one of those families who put our tree up waaaayyyyy before Thanksgiving, but no worries; we do not skimp on the true meaning of the season OR being thankful. {wink}
It helps to read a few “decor” blogs, and get ideas from how they have done things. I scoured the archives of several blogs’ “Christmas Tours,” made a few wreathes, and added special pieces from Christmases past to create my Christmas mantel.
Special pieces
The wreaths are a take on these Valentine wreaths, and this gorgeous burlap and lace one from my friend Myra. The ceramic house and angel figurine are from Shane’s Nana and our aunt Deborah in Germany, respectively. My favorite part of the display is the red rocking horse pillow. It is very simple, but so special, as my Gigi made it. She’s been in heaven for 17 {wow, I can’t believe it has been that long} years now, and this is the first year I have pulled it out. I love how it looks!
I covered a large framed picture with the chevron material that I used on the wreathes. It is attached with double-sided tape, so as not to ruin the picture behind it. I tied ornaments onto an empty photo frame with thread… a very easy and quick way to add a nice pop. Finally, the baby in the hands piece was a gift from my mother-in-law when she went to Paris last year. It was in honor of us having a son, so this piece gets a lot of display, because it is one of my most favorite things ever.

The girls decorated a box of gingerbread houses last week, and that icing was hard stuff to mess with! Despite that, we had a lot of fun putting them together, and their little village is my table centerpiece.
I’m not a fancy decor person at all, so if you love decorating for Christmas {or decorating in general}, but feel like you aren’t “good enough,” take it from me and just go for it. In all honesty, I would love to have more color at the back of my mantel, but painting the brick isn’t an option right now. I am on the lookout a {large} fun backdrop! If I can decorate a house, you most certainly can, too! In the end, at least for me, it isn’t about making your decorations “perfect,” {or Pinterest-worthy, or any of those other descriptions!} but having them suit you and your style.
